Jon DeCelles began sculpting on little stones with a simple steak knife. With a great passion for scuplting faces, the artist decided to take sculpture courses and study the art in earnest. He received expert recognition and several awards for his work. Over the course of twenty years, Decelles’ realistic figures evolved into abstract ones. He is capable of sculpting monumental pieces weighing over 600 kgs, and also miniature pieces measuring 2 cm. This piece, “Maternity,” made of Daum crystal, was inspired by the birth of Decelles’ sons, and the softness and comfort that a mother’s arms give to a child. With their eyes closed, they have frozen this moment for eternity. This crystal sculpture in a soft pink shade is full of tenderness, and invites us to indulge in touch and contemplation.
