Description
Broad Bean Crimson Flowered is a classic, high yielding variety with highly decorative flowers.
It produces tasty beans in short pods and the purple flowers make an attractive addition on both the vegetable and flower plot.
Sow & Grow:
Sow outdoors: where they are to crop, 5cm(2in) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. To make best use of space sow seeds 23cm(9in) apart in a wide row, in a zig zag pattern leaving a space of 60cm(2ft) between each row.
Seedlings usually appear in 10-18 days. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Water well until plants are established.
Successional sowings will ensure a continuous supply and longer harvest.
Sow indoors 2.5cm(1in) deep into individual pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position.
A temperature of 15-20˚C(60-68˚F) is ideal.
Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 23cm(9in) apart.
Grow in:
- Allotment / Veg Patch
- Greenhouse / Polytunnel
Hints & Tips:
An early and late sowing will extend the harvest season. In hot weather mist the flowers with tepid water in the evening to help pods form.
